We are at an age where self-expression and body confidence have become a focus, and we desire to enhance our physical appearance. For some, breast augmentation is a transformative cosmetic procedure. It boosts their self-esteem and gives them a chance to embrace the body they have always dreamed of.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance breast size and shape. It involves placing breast implants to increase breast volume. Implants are filled with silicone gel. Breast augmentation is done during general anesthesia, which is given at the time of surgery as inhaled gas. General anesthesia produces a state of unconsciousness, making you immobile, pain-free and unaware of what’s happening during the surgery.

Who are Good Candidates for Breast Augmentation?

Most individuals seek breast augmentation to achieve fuller breasts, improve their body proportion, or regain breast volume lost due to pregnancy, weight loss, or aging. Here are the general factors that often make someone a good candidate for breast augmentation:

  • Good skin elasticity. Skin that can adapt well to the changes in breast size can help prevent issues like sagging or visible implant edges.
  • Fully developed breast. Surgeons usually advise waiting until the late teens or early twenties, as breast growth occurs before that age.
  • Stable weight. You should have a stable weight, as fluctuations in weight can impact the appearance of breast augmentation results.

Before breast augmentation, you will have a consultation with the plastic surgeon. Discuss your preferences and concerns you have. The surgeon will assess your overall health and examine your breast anatomy.

Why Breast Augmentation with Implants?

Breast augmentation is not limited to just implants; there are alternative methods to enhance breast size and shape: fat transfer (autologous fat grafting) and breast lift (mastopexy). But why breast augmentation with implants is much preferred?

  • Offers a significant increase in breast size. You can also customize the shape, size, and profile.
  • Can address volume loss and asymmetry effectively.
  • Has long-lasting results.

Breast Implant Types

One of the key decisions you must make before breast augmentation with implants is choosing the right one for you. Sketch Plastic Surgery offers the following options for you.

Breast Implant Options

  • Motiva Round Implants: Known for their advanced technology and design. “Round” implants are the most common implant shape. They have a uniform distribution of volume, which can enhance fullness and projection in the upper part of the breasts.
  • Mentor Smooth Implants: “Smooth” implants have a soft outer shell, allowing free movement within the breast pocket. They are often chosen for their natural feel and ease of movement.
  • Mentor Xtra Implants: Offer increased fullness, firmness, and projection, making it one of the finest developments in cosmetic surgery technology.
  • Sebbin Purity Smooth Implants: “Purity” refers to the quality and nature of the implants. “Smooth” implants from Sebbin have a smooth surface with a natural look and feel.

Breast Implant Size

Choosing the right implant size is a crucial decision in breast augmentation. Implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc), typically around 100cc to 800cc or more.

Breast Implant Surface

  • Smooth Implants: Common choice. Have a slick surface, allowing easy movement within the breast pocket. They often feel more natural and might have a lower risk of visible rippling.
  • Textured Implants: Have a rough surface designed to reduce the risk of certain complications. Slightly less mobility within the breast pocket. Often recommended for specific situations, such as anatomical implants.

Breast Implant Placement

Implants can be placed in two primary locations within the breast:

  • Subglandular (Above the Muscle): Positioned behind the breast tissue but in front of the chest muscle; leads to a quicker recovery, but can be more visible in individuals with thinner breast tissue.
  • Submuscular (Under the Muscle): Placed beneath the chest muscle; offers more coverage, a lower risk of visible edges, and can provide a more natural appearance. It might also reduce the risk of interference with mammograms.

 Surgical Incision Site

  • Inframammary Incision: Done in the fold underneath the breast providing direct access to the breast pocket, allowing for precise implant placement, and typically results in well-concealed scars.
  • Periareolar Incision: Made around the edge of the areola. This incision might be suitable for those who want minimal scar visibility, but there’s a potential for affecting nipple sensation and breastfeeding.
  • Transaxillary Incision: Made in the armpit. This method avoids breast scars, but implant placement and adjustments can be more challenging.

It is important to consult a qualified plastic surgeon to determine which implant type best aligns with your desired outcome, body proportions, and surgeon’s recommendations.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation

You should not forget one thing before the procedure: a surgical bra or compression garment. Your breasts will be wrapped in bandages; you must wear a compression garment to support healing.

Most breast augmentation is on an outpatient basis. You can go home the same day the procedure is done. However, expect bruising, swelling, and discomfort in the first few days.

Scars may be visible in the first few days. Follow your cosmetic surgeon’s instructions and apply a silicone scar cream to promote scar healing. It may take several weeks for your breast implants to settle into their final position, while the swelling keeps gradually healing.

Breast Augmentation Results at Sketch Plastic Surgery

Before undergoing breast augmentation, the patients presented with asymmetrical breasts with a lack of fullness and projection. Some have also expressed dissatisfaction with their breasts’ shape and volume. They all shared that their self-esteem was affected, and desired a more balanced and feminine body.

After the breast augmentation with implant surgery, the patients achieved their remarkable transformation. The surgeon carefully selected silicone implants with the patient to achieve a natural yet enhanced appearance. The procedure resulted in more symmetrical breasts with improved upper pole fullness and projection.

The patient’s new breast size and shape harmonize beautifully with her body proportions. Overall, the before-and-after images reveal a stunning change in breast appearance, showcasing the successful outcome of breast augmentation surgery tailored to the patient’s unique goals and anatomy.

How Much is Breast Augmentation?

The cost of breast augmentation in South Korea varies on several factors: type of implants used, and the specific services included in the package. It is important to note that breast augmentation fees may include the cosmetic surgeon’s fee, post-operative care, and follow-up appointments.

If you are traveling to South Korea for breast augmentation, it is essential to consider other costs like accommodation, travel, and other pre-operative medical tests. At Sketch Plastic Surgery, you will receive these complementary services:

FAQs About Breast Augmentation

What will Breast Augmentation scars look like?

With proper care, scars tend to fade over time. Using silicone scar cream, avoiding direct sunlight, and following your surgeon’s post-operative instructions can help minimize the visibility of scars.

Do breast implants need to be changed after 10 years?

It is a common misconception that you must replace your breast implants every 10 years. Breast implant replacements have no definite timeframe. Routine follow-up appointments with your surgeon and regular imaging can help monitor your implant’s condition. If there are no complications, there is no need for a replacement.
