Smooth Wrinkles and Refine Facial Contours with Botox

Stem cell technology is an evolving field of regenerative medicine that explores how specialized cells and biological signaling processes may support tissue repair, renewal, and regeneration. Stem cells are known for their ability to develop into certain cell types and, depending on the type, contribute to the body’s natural maintenance and repair processes.

There are several types of stem cells, including embryonic stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and adult stem cells. Adult stem cells can be found in tissues such as bone marrow, adipose tissue, as well as in blood. Blood contains specific stem and progenitor cell populations. The cells and biological components available depend on the source and processing method.

What Areas Can Botox Treat?

Botox can be used in different areas of the face and neck, depending on the muscles involved and the patient’s concerns.

1. Forehead Lines

Horizontal forehead lines often develop from repeatedly raising the eyebrows. Botox relaxes the muscles responsible for these movements, helping soften visible lines and prevent them from becoming more pronounced.

2. Frown Lines (Glabellar Lines)

Frown lines are the vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows when frowning or concentrating. Botox relaxes the muscles that pull the eyebrows inward and downward, creating a softer, more relaxed appearance.

3. Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet are fine lines that develop around the outer corners of the eyes, particularly when smiling or squinting. Botox can soften these expression lines while preserving a natural-looking smile when appropriately administered.

4. Masseter Botox (Jawline Slimming)

The masseter muscles are located at the sides of the jaw and are responsible for chewing. When these muscles are enlarged, they can create a wider or more square-shaped lower face.

Botox reduces masseter muscle activity, gradually decreasing muscle bulk and creating a slimmer, softer jawline. It may be suitable for patients with prominent masseter muscles, although it does not remove excess fat or correct underlying bone structure.

5. Mouth Corner Botox

Downturned mouth corners can contribute to a tired, sad, or unhappy appearance. In selected patients, Botox can relax the muscles that pull the corners of the mouth downward, helping create a subtly more lifted appearance.

6. Neck Lines and Platysmal Bands

Vertical neck bands and certain neck lines can become more noticeable as the platysma muscle becomes more prominent with age. Carefully placed Botox can relax selected areas of this muscle, softening the appearance of visible bands and improving the overall look of the neck.

Botox may also be used for selected horizontal neck lines, although these lines can have multiple causes and may require other treatments for optimal improvement.

7. Additional Treatment Areas

Depending on individual needs, Botox may also be used for:

  • Bunny Lines: Fine wrinkles along the sides of the nose when smiling or scrunching the nose.
  • Chin Dimpling: Relaxes excessive chin muscle activity that creates a pebbled or uneven appearance.
  • Gummy Smile: Reduces excessive upper-lip elevation to make less gum visible when smiling.
  • Lip Flip: Relaxes a small portion of the muscle around the upper lip, allowing the lip to appear slightly more turned outward.
  • Underarm Sweating: Reduces excessive sweating by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that stimulate sweat glands.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox temporarily blocks the nerve signals responsible for activating targeted muscles. As the muscles relax, expression-related wrinkles become less noticeable, and certain enlarged muscles gradually decrease in size with repeated or sustained reduction in activity.

The treatment involves small injections into carefully selected areas. No surgical incisions are required, and most patients can return to their usual daily activities shortly afterward.

What Results Can You Expect?

Results vary depending on the treatment area, dosage, muscle strength, and individual response.

  • Wrinkle reduction: Expression lines generally begin to soften within several days, with the full effect typically developing over approximately 1–2 weeks.
  • Masseter slimming: Jawline changes develop gradually as the muscle decreases in bulk, usually becoming more noticeable over several weeks.
  • Neck and mouth corner treatments: Improvement depends on muscle activity, anatomy, and the selected injection technique.

Botox is temporary. Effects commonly last around 3–4 months for many facial wrinkle treatments, although some areas, particularly the masseter, may show effects for longer. Maintenance treatments can be considered according to individual response and medical advice.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate?

Botox may be suitable for individuals who:

  • Wish to soften forehead lines, frown lines, or crow’s feet.
  • Have prominent masseter muscles and prefer a less square jawline.
  • Are concerned about downturned mouth corners or visible neck bands.
  • Want to address selected expression-related wrinkles without surgery.
  • Prefer a quick, non-surgical treatment with minimal downtime.

A medical consultation is important to determine whether Botox is appropriate. Not all wrinkles are caused by muscle movement; static wrinkles, skin laxity, and volume loss may require different or additional treatments.

Botox at Sketch Plastic Surgery Korea

At Sketch, Botox treatments are planned around each patient’s facial proportions, muscle activity, and desired outcome. Our goal is not simply to reduce wrinkles, but to maintain facial balance and natural expression.

For international patients, Botox may also be coordinated with other suitable facial procedures or skin treatments during the same visit, where medically appropriate. This can help make treatment planning more convenient for patients visiting Korea for a limited period.

4. Temples

Volume loss in the temples can create a hollow appearance and make the upper face look less balanced. Filler can restore volume to the temple area and create a smoother facial contour.

5. Under-Eye Area

Under-eye filler may help improve selected cases of tear trough hollowing, reducing the appearance of shadows that can make the eyes look tired. Careful patient selection is essential, as filler may not be suitable for patients with significant under-eye bags, puffiness, or skin laxity.

6. Cheeks and Midface

Cheek fillers can restore volume, enhance cheek projection, and improve midface contours. They may also provide structural support that helps soften certain facial folds.

7. Chin

Chin filler can improve chin projection, refine its shape, and create better balance between the chin, lips, and nose without surgery.

8. Jawline

Jawline filler can enhance definition and improve the appearance of the lower facial contour. Treatment is customized according to the patient’s facial structure and desired level of definition.

9. Lips

Lip filler can add volume, improve lip definition, and enhance symmetry. The amount and placement are adjusted to achieve a natural result that complements the patient’s facial proportions.
