RECOVERY TIME
The recovery time of patients after an open rhinoplasty can be divided into three phases: acute, subacute, and chronic. Right after the procedure, patients may feel drowsy or dizzy from the anesthesia. They may also feel numbness, however all of these may go away a few hours after the surgery.
During the acute phase, which is about 7-10 days post-op, they can already go back to their normal daily routine. During this stage, the bruising and the swelling around the nasal area are already disappearing and are almost gone. You are also required to wear a splint, which is a device used to hold your nose in place and to protect the bones. The sutures will also be removed after this phase.
The subacute phase is the 4-week or 1 month period after the surgery, and it is where patients are required to avoid strenuous physical activities. Or any activities that may endanger their nose.
The chronic phase is where patients will be able to properly see the final results with the bruising and swelling already gone. The bones, skin, tissue, and muscle are also almost fully healed. However, there is still a need to protect the nose at all cost and avoid causing trauma to it.

DISADVANTAGES OF CLOSED RHINOPLASTY
One disadvantage of closed rhinoplasty is that the surgeon doesn’t have full access to the internal structures of the nose making it more complex. Damaging the nasal structures inside are also very possible. The patient may also experience difficulty in breathing because of the sutures inside the nose.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR RHINOPLASTY
No matter if you choose open rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty, you still need to prepare for both equally. There are Do’s and Don’ts before undergoing your nose job, and it is important to follow them.
- Avoid medications such as Aspirin, vitamin E, ibuprofen or any supplements 2 weeks before your surgery
- Do not smoke 2 weeks before the surgery. Smoking can change your healing process by disrupting the blood flow. Even after your surgery, you should avoid smoking for at least 2 weeks.
- Avoid sun damage. The sun’s UV rays can damage your skin and also affect your healing. Always wear your sunscreen (SPF 50) for protection.
